This research is entitled A Textual Analysis of Bruno Mars Song Lyrics which aims at finding out the meaning behind the song lyrics by using the theories of figurative language and conveying the message of the song by looking at the meaning and background of the song. This research is conducted because there are many people who are unaware of the real meaning of the song. Moreover, the message that the songwriter wants to deliver sometimes cannot be understood by the people. In conducting this research, seven songs are selected based on the deep meaning of the songs and the awards that these songs get. This research used qualitative methods. The result of this research shows that all the seven songs used figurative language. There are two dominant types of figurative language that were found in these song lyrics; anaphora and hyperbole. However, the figurative language that mostly found in these song lyrics is anaphora. It can be concluded that Bruno Mars' songs used many repeated words and it becomes the hook which is catchy in listener's ears. Therefore, his songs are easy to remember and stick on people minds. Moreover, most of the meanings of the songs are related to daily life especially man and woman relationship. The messages from the songs are mostly about advice about this relationship. So, it could be enjoyable. It could be more enjoyed listening to the music if we understand the meaning and the message of the songs. Keywords: Bruno Mars, song lyrics, figurative language.
