This project is entitled "The textual analysis of song lyrics written by The S.I.G.I.T and Gugun Blues Shelter". In writing this final project, the present writer chooses The S.I.G.I.TÂ’s and Gugun Blues ShelterÂ’s songs as the object of the study because they are well known as the independent group music bands from Indonesia which have many achievements. The present writer analyzed style of language, especially figure of speech or figurative expressions in The S.I.G.I.TÂ’s and Gugun Blues ShelterÂ’s songs. The objectives of this study are to describe the using of style of language, the meanings and the messages of the song writerÂ’s lyrics, and the similarities and differences between The S.I.G.I.TÂ’s and Gugun Blues ShelterÂ’s song lyrics. This research belongs to qualitative research. The use of qualitative research is suitable with the methods of analyzing data of this research. The present writer analyzes eight songs from both The S.I.G.I.TÂ’s and Gugun Blues Shelter. The songs are "The Provocateur", "New Generation", "All the time", and "Satan state" by The S.I.G.I.T; and "Good things bad things", "Rusty man", "White dog", and "When I see you again" by Gugun Blues Shelter. The result of this study can be briefly stated as follows. Social life is the most influenced theme for The S.I.G.I.TÂ’s and Gugun Blues Shelter to write lyrics. The figures of speech that the present writer found in The S.I.G.I.TÂ’s and Gugun Blues ShelterÂ’s song lyrics are simile, hyperbole, metaphor, metonymy, sarcasm, antithesis, and allusion.
