This project is entitled An Analysis of Figurative Language and Symbolism in Song Lyrics by Slipknot. The data were taken from seven songs by Slipknot. The aims of the final project are; firstly, to identify type of figurative language used; secondly, to find out the meaning of the figurative language used; and thirdly, to find out the symbolism used and its meaning. The method used in conducting this project is qualitative method. After analyzing all the data, it can be concluded that Slipknot used several types of figurative language in the lyrics such as alliteration, anaphora, apostrophe, assonance, hyperbole, idiom, irony, metaphor, oxymoron, paradox, personification, simile, synecdoche, and understatement. The types of figurative language mostly used are assonance and anaphora. Besides, they used several words of symbolism found such as 12/08/73 which represents the date of birth of the singer; America which represents a very powerful country; meningitis, dry sockets, and schizophrenic crisis which represent very unpleasant feelings and situations; sulfur which also represents very unpleasant situations; the devil which represents the bad government; and the nine which represents the members of Slipknot.
