This final project entitled An Analysis of Lexical Cohesion used in Three Short Stories. The short stories used are entitled The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant (France, 1884), A Trifle from Real Life by Anton Chekhov (Russia, 1888), and A Woman Like Me by XiXi (Hong Kong, 1982). The aims of this final project are: firstly is to identify the kinds of lexical cohesion used in the three short stories and secondly is to analyse what kinds of lexical cohesion used in the three short stories. In doing this project, qualitative method is used as the main method because the result of analysis is descriptive. The project also used quantitative method as the supporting method for showing the total number of lexical cohesion found. This project was conducted by using the theory of Paltridge (2000) about lexical cohesion. The data in this project was taken from those three short stories. And also by doing library studies. After analyzing all of the data taken from the three short stories, it can be concluded that the results appeared are 271 lexical cohesions used by the three short stories' authors. There are 110 lexical cohesions found in the short story entitled A Woman Like Me, 82 in The Necklace, and 79 in A Trifle from Real Life. The kinds of lexical cohesions mostly found is adjective + noun collocation. The least kind of lexical cohesion found is adjective + preposition collocation. This project is expected to be a beneficial study about analysis in Writing, Text Analysis, and Essay Writing. Keywords: lexical cohesion, repetition, antonymy, hyponymy, collocation.
