This final project is entitled An Analysis of Rhetorical Devices in Government Leaders' Speeches: Tony Blair, George W. Bush, and John Howard. It is conducted in order to know the rhetorical devices used, and the similarities and the differences of the uses of them in terms of number of occurrences among the three leaders' speeches above. This research applied textual analysis method to analyse the speeches supported by the theory of rhetorical devices from Harris and Edward (1980). The results of this project show that the uses of parallelism, repetition, and juxtaposition have the same number of occurrences-13. This makes them become the devices which are most commonly used in the three leaders' speeches. To talk about the similarities and differences of the uses of rhetorical devices, it has been identified that the same three devices are equally applied in every leaders' speech. While, in this project, hypopora becomes the one device that is found in Blair's speeches only.
