Skripsi yang berjudul “An Analysis of Speech Act Types in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ â€� atau “Analisis Penggunaan Jenis Tindak Tutur dalam Novel ‘Animal Farm’ Oleh George Orwellâ€� ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tentang jenis tindak tutur yang digunakan dalam novel ini. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor apakah yang memengaruhi kemunculan jenis tindak tutur tersebut. Dalam laporan ini, metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif. Metode ini digunakan untuk mencapai analisis yang mendalam terhadap subjek yang diteliti.setelah melakukan analisis, penulis mengetahui bahwa dalam mengklasifikasikan data, penulis harus memperhatikan konteks, ko-teks serta hasil atau tanggapan dari audiens atau si alamat dari ujaran di dalam novel. Dipengaruhi oleh hal-hal tersebut, diketahui bahwa satu data yang sama dapat memiliki jenis tindak tutur yang berbeda karena konteks, ko-teks, atau tanggapan yang diberikan lebih dari satu. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat jenis tindak tutur yang digunakan dalam novel ini, yaitu ‘declarations’, ‘directives’, ‘representatives’, dan ‘commissives’.

This skripsi is entitled “An Analysis of Speech Act Types in George Orwell’s Animal Farmâ€�. This research purposes to find out the types of speech acts which are used in this novel. Besides that, the writer also intends to find out about the factors which affect the occurrence of the speech act type. The method used in this paper is qualitative. Qualitative research was used to reach a depth in analysis of the subject studied. After conducting the analysis, the writer found out that in classifying the data, the writer must concern about the context, co-text and also the result or response given from the audience or addressee of the speech in the novel. Affected by those factors, it is found out that the same data could have different type of speech act since the context, co-text or response given in the narrative was more than one. These findings show that the types of speech acts used in the novel can be classified into four types; declarations, directives, representatives, and commissives.
