This study entitled An Analysis of the Figurative Language and Idiomatic Expressions Used in "The New Yorker" Magazine aimed to identify the types of figurative language and idiomatic expressions found in the six selected texts of The New Yorker of November 26, 2012 edition. In addition, the meaning of the figurative language and idiomatic expressions used in the selected texts were interpreted. The texts chosen were review article, fiction, general article, poem, and advertisement. Qualitative method was applied due to the non-numerical form of data. Quantitative method was used to determine the quantity of figurative language and idiomatic expressions found in the texts. The results of the analysis showed that the most figurative language used in the selected text was simile because simile can make the reader imagine the situation in the texts easier. In addition, the most idiomatic expressions used were phrasal verb. Keywords: figurative language, idiomatic expressions, The New Yorker magazine.
