Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui Sejauhmana isi teras berita kriminal di Harian Umum Galamedia ditinjau dari fungsinya. Untuk menjawab masalah penelitian ini, peneliti menganalisis sesuai dengan fungsi teras berita menurut Haris Sumadiria sebagai indikator, yaitu atraktif, introduktif, korelatif dan kredibilitas. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah kuantitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Jumlah populasi penelitian ini sebanyak 22 teras berita kriminal, yang diambil dari edisi 1 Maret 2010 hingga 31 Maret 2010. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah total sampling. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa pada teras berita di Harian Umum Galamedia selama bulan Maret 2010, menunjukan kategori atraktif dengan sub kategori menarik minat membaca sebanyak 12 teras berita dengan persentase 54.55 %, dan untuk sub kategori menarik perhatian sebanyak 10 teras berita dengan persentase 45.45 %. Untuk kategori introduktif dengan sub kategori menggunakan kalimat jelas dan tegas sebanyak 9 teras berita dengan persentase 40.91 % dan untuk sub kategori memenuhi unsur 5W+1H sebanyak 13 teras berita dengan persentase 59.09 %. Kategori korelatif dengan sub kategori keterkaitan teras berita dengan bagian perangkai atau kata sambung sebanyak 5 teras berita dengan persentase 22.72 % dan untuk sub kategori keterkaitan teras berita dengan isi berita sebanyak 17 teras berita dengan persentase 77.28 %. Dan untuk kategori kredibilitas dengan sub kategori keahlian wartawan dalam pembuatan teras berita sebanyak 18 teras berita dengan persentase 81.82 % dan untuk sub kategori pengalaman wartawan sebanyak 4 teras berita dengan persentase 18.18 %. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah bahwa isi teras berita kriminal yang di Harian Umum Galamedia sesuai dengan fungsi teras berita, hal itu dapat dilihat pada hasil koding yang telah peneliti lakukan. Saran penelitian diharapkan Harian Umum Galamedia dapat mempertahankan kualitas penyajian berita kriminal, terutama teras berita kriminal. Harian Umum Galamedia dapat mengadakan pelatihan kepada wartawan-wartawan muda yang ingin handal dalam menulis sebuah berita. Dalam penulisan teras berita kriminal di harapkan selalu berisikan 5W 1H,

The research purposes to know how far the lead contents of criminal news on Galamedia public daily reviewed from its function. To solve this research matter, the researcher analyze appropriate with the lead news function according to Haris Sumardiria the indicators are, attractive, introductive, correlative, and credibility. The research approach which used in this research is quantitative type with descriptive method. The population amount of this research are 22 lead of criminal news which taken from March 1st until March 31, 2010 editions. The sampling technique which used is Total Sampling. The Analysis Data Technique which used is Descriptive Analysis. Research result obtained that on lead at Galamedia Daily Public March 2010 period, shows the attractive category with the sub category of the interest in reading as many as 12 leads with the percentage 54,55 %, and for the sub category of attention totaling 10 leads with the percentage 45,45 %. For the category introductive with the sub category used the clear and firm sentence totaling 9 leads with the percentage 40,91 % and for the sub category filled the element 5W+1H totaling 13 leads with the percentage 59,09 %. The category correlative to the sub category of the connection of the lead with the connector part or said continued totaling 5 leads with the percentage 22,72 % and for the sub category of the connection of the news leads with the contents of the news totaling 17 leads with the percentage 77,28 %. And for the category of the credibility with the sub category of the reporter's expertise in the production of the news lead totaling 18 leads with the percentage 81,82 % and for the sub category of the reporter's experience totaling 4 leads with the percentage 18,18 %. Research concludes that the lead contents of Criminal News on Galamedia Daily Public are appropriate with the lead news function, this can be seen at the coding result which the researcher has done. The research tips, the researcher expected that Galamedia Daily Public can maintain the quality of criminal news presentation, especially the lead of criminal news. The Galamedia Daily Public can organize some training for the young reporters who wants to reliable writing news. On writing a lead of criminal news, always prioritizes 5W 1H.
