This thesis is entitled “Analisis kata that dalam novel The Da Vinci Code karya Dan Brown (Sebuah Kajian Sintaktis)â€�. The purpose of the research is to acquire a clear description of word ‘that’ as one of the important element in English texts. The method used in the research is descriptive. The work of the descriptive method says and interprets data that correlate with fact, condition, variable, and phenomena which occur when research was done. The analysis is performed in accordance with the theories put forward by Halliday about IC (Immediate Constituent) analysis. The writer collects all data by using random method with a consideration that the data contain with cases of the word ‘that’. The result of the research shows that the words ‘that’ of an English text has many categories. The words ‘that’ in The Da Vinci Code novel are identified as conjunction, determiner, pronoun and relative pronoun, and they had two language units, they are phrase, and sentence.
