Novel merupakan karangan prosa panjang yang di dalamnya menonjolkan watak dan sifat setiap pelaku. Novel selalu berkaitan dengan psikologi karena didalamnya terdapat karakter yang berbeda-beda. Karakter tersebut dapat diamati dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra.Madogiwa no Totto chanmerupakan salah satu novel menarikuntuk diteliti dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikologi sastra teori psikologi behavioristik, karena didalamnya terdapat perubahan karakter Totto chan sebelum pindah ke sekolah Tomoe. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk adalah untuk mengetahui 1) tema novel Madogiwa no Totto chan karya Tetsuko Kuroyanagi; 2)karakter tokoh Totto chan sebelum pindah sekolah ke sekolah Tomoe dalam novel Madogiwa no Totto chan; 3) stimulus yang diberikan tokoh Sosaku Kobayashi sebagai Kepala Sekolah Tomoe terhadap tokoh Totto chan dalam novel Madogiwa no Totto chan; dan 4) respon tokoh Totto chan setelah menerima stimulus dari tokoh Kepala Sekolah Sosaku Kobayashi dalam novel Madogiwa no Totto chan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pustaka dan catat sebagai metode pengumpulan data. Objek penelitiannya berupa kutipan-kutipan yang mengandung karakter tokoh Totto chan dan Kepala Sekolah dalam novel Madogiwa no Totto chan. Kutipan-kutipan tersebutdianalisismenggunakan metode desktiptif analisis. Karakter Totto chan dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik penggambaran tokohnya, sedangkan karakter tokoh Kepala Sekolah yang mempengaruhi perubahan karakter tokoh Totto chan akan diteliti berdasarkan teori behavioristik B.F Skinner. Hasil penelitian ini adalah 1) Tema novel ini adalah model pengajaran yang membentuk karakter murid. Pembentukan karakter tersebut dapat terlihat dari tokoh Totto chan. 2) Sebelum pindah sekolah, Totto chan memiliki karakter yang terlalu aktif dan nakal, dimana karakter tersebut membuat Totto chan harus dikeluarkan dari sekolahnya. 3) Stimulus Kepala Sekolah terbagi menjadi dua, stimulus tak berkondisiyang berupa karakter penyabar, perhatian, bijaksana, dan percaya, dan stimulus berkondisi berupa tindakan mengatakan bahwa Totto chan anak yang baik. 4) Setelah mendapat stimulus-stimulus dari Kepala Sekolah karakter Totto chan berubah menjadi anak yang baik.

Novel is long prose which features characteristic and personality of every character. Novel always relates to psychology since novel has various characters. The characters can be observed by using literature psychology approach. Madogiwa no Totto chan is one of the interesting novels to be researched by using literature psychology approach with behavioristic psychology theory since in the novel there are changes in character of Totto chan before she moves to Tomoe Gakuen. This research aims to reveal 1) theme of the novel Madogiwa no Totto chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi; 2) the character of Totto chan before she transfers to another school named Tomoe Gakuen in Madogiwa no Totto chan novel; 3) the stimulus that is presented by the character of Sosaku Kobayashi as the Principal of Tomoe Gakuen to Totto chan in Madogiwa no Totto chan novel; and 4) the responses of Totto chan after she receives the stimulus from the Principal Sosaku Kobayashi in Madogiwa no Totto chan novel. This research uses note and library method as the data collection method. The objects of this research are in the form of excerpts which include the character of Totto chan and the Principal in Madogiwa no Totto chan novel. The excerpts were analyzed by describing the character, whereas the Principal that influences the change of the character Totto chan was analyzed by using behavioristic theory by B.F Skinner. The results of this research are 1) The theme of the novel is teaching model that shapes characters of the students. 2) Before she transfers to another school, Totto chan is overactive and brassy, in which her behavior makes her dropped out from the previous school. 3) The stimulus of the Principal is divided into two, the unconditional stimulus in the form of character which are patient, considerate, wise, and believe, and the conditional stimulus in the form of action in which he says that Totto chan is a good kid. 4) After she receives the person.
