This final project is entitled "Analyzing Translation Technique of Phrasal Verbs in The Alchemist novel by Paulo Coelho." The Alchemist novel is originally written in Portuguese but it has been translated into English by Alan R. Clarke also into Indonesian by Tanti Lesmana. This final project is not only focused in analyzing the translation technique but also analyzing the types of phrasal verbs. Translating phrasal verbs is not easy since it cannot be translated literally. That is why choosing the right translation technique will be useful to get the equivalent meaning. The data were taken from The Alchemist novel and also Sang Alkemis novel for the Indonesian version. The theory of Carter (2016) is used for analyzing the types of phrasal verbs. There are three types of phrasal verbs found in the novel such as intransitive (37%), transitive separable (28%) and transitive inseparable (35%). The theory of Baker (1992) is used for analyzing the translation technique used, such as Similar Meaning and Form (SMF) (12%), Similar Meaning but Dissimilar Form (52%), Paraphrase (29%) and Omission (7%).
