Penelitian berjudul “Illuminati in Four Eminem’s Lyrics: A Study of Semiotics” ini membongkar adanya rujukan dan pesan Illuminati dalam empat lirik lagu Eminem yang berjudul “Lose Yourself”, “Rain Man”,“Stay Wide Awake”, dan “My Darling”. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori semiotika dua tahap signifikansi Roland Barthes. Dalam tahapan pertama, analisis dilakukan dengan mengkaji kata-kata tertentu, fitur tata bahasa dan sintaksis, dan juga dengan mengkaji unsur narasinya. Lalu tahapan kedua berfokus pada teori konotasi semiotika Roland Barthes yaitu menghubungkan lirik dengan rujukan Illuminati. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskripsi analisis.Hasil akhir penelitian ini menguraikan bahwa lirik “Lose Yourself” mengusung perusakan perilaku. Lirik ini juga diindikasikan sebagai ajakan untuk mengikuti ajaran Illuminati, dan untuk menjual jiwa kepada ruh jahat. “Rain Man” mengusung imoralitas seksual dan judulnya juga merujuk kepada Lucifer sebagai “tuhan” Illuminati. “Stay Wide Awake” mengusung imoralitas seksual dan juga memberitahu si pendengar bahwa si pembicara adalah anggota Illuminati. Lirik terakhir “My Darling” berisi perdebatan antara si pembicara dan dirinya sendiri sebagai perdebatan antara sisi baik dan sisi jahatnya yang menjadi seorang Illuminati.

The research entitled “Illuminati in Four Eminem’s Lyrics: A Study of Semiotics” aims to reveal the reference of the Illuminati and the Illuminati’s message in four Eminem’s lyrics entitled “Lose Yourself”, “Rain Man”, “Stay Wide Awake”, and “My Darling”. The research uses semiotics study focused on orders of signification by Roland Barthes. In the first order of signification, the analysis is done by examining particular words, grammatical and syntactical features, and also by examining the narration devices. The second order of signification focuses on the connotative semiotic theory of Roland Barthes by correlating the examination to the Illuminati reference. The method used in this research is analytic descriptive. As the final result, it is found that “Lose Yourself” lyric encourages self-destructive behavior. It also indicates as the persuasion to follow the religion held by the Illuminati and to sell the soul to the demon. “Rain Man” encourages sexual immorality, and the title itself refers to the Lucifer as the “god” of the Illuminati. “Stay Wide Awake” encourages sexual immorality and tells the listener that the speaker is Illuminati’s member. The last is “My Darling” which contains the debate between the speaker and himself as a debate between his good side and and his evil side of being an Illuminati.
