Intrusion Detection System (IDS) dapat didefinisikan sebagai kegiatan yang bersifat anomaly, incorrect, inappropriate yang terjadi di jaringan atau host. Dan IDS sendiri adalah sistem keamanan yang bekerja bersama Firewall untuk mengatasi Intrusion. IDS mampu mendeteksi penyusup dan memberikan respon secara real time. Terdapat dua teknik yang digunakan dalam IDS yaitu, NIDS (Network Based Intrusion Detection System) dan HIDS (Host Based Intrusion Detection System). Pada percobaan kali ini IDS dibagun menggunakan perangkat lunak Snort. Snort merupakan Open Source Intrusion Detection System (IDS) yang digunakan untuk pemantauan dan pencegahan terhadap gangguan pada jaringan komputer. Agar mempermudah administrator dalam melihat dan membaca hasil log dari setiap paket data yang masuk atau keluar maka menggunakan Basic Analysis and Security Engine (BASE).Pada percobaan ini PC Server menggunakan sistem operasi Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Pengujian dilakukan pada Local Area Network dengan topologi Star. Dimana hasil gangguan yang disebabkan DoS dan Port Scanner dapat dikenali oleh Snort IDS dan menampilkan log secara lengkap, baik dari waktu, tanggal kejadian dan sumber IP Address dari penggangu.

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is defined as an anomaly, incorrect, inappropriate activity take place in a net or a host. The IDS is a security system that work with Firewall to overcome intrusion. IDS is able to detect an intruder and to response at real time. There are two methods used in IDS, NIDS (Network Based Intrusion Detection System) and HIDS (Host Based Intrusion Detection System). In this research, IDS built using the divace Snort software. Snort is an Open source Intrusion Detection System (IDS) used for the monitoring and prevention of disorders on a computer network. In order to make it easier for the administrator to see and read the log results from each entering or exiting of data paket then use the Basic Analysis and Security Engine (BASE). In this research, the PC Server was operated under Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS system. The tests were conducted on Local Area Network with Star Topologi. The result of disruptions coused by DoS and Port Scanner identified by snort IDS and displays the complete log, both of time, date of the incident and the source IP address of the intruder.
