Writing ability is process refers to the act of gathering ideas that expressed in written form. However, many students had difficult problem in writing because it is difficult to master. Therefore, it is important to do a research entitled “Improving Students Seventh Grade Descriptive Writing Ability by Using Pairs Check Method”. In this research, the problem are 1.“ How can Pairs Check Method improve students’ writing ability in the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember in the academic year 2014/2015?”. 2. “How can Pairs Check Method improve students’ participation in the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember in the academic year 2014/2015?” and the objective of this research referring to the research problem is to find out how can Pairs Check Method improve writing ability and students participation. Based on the research problem and the relevant theory, the hypothesis of this research is described as follows: Discuss and check the answer together improves the seventh grade students’ writing ability at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember in the 2014/2015 academic year by write a descriptive text in group of pairs.
Ringkasan Alternatif
The design of this research is classroom action research. The research subject is VII B class that consists 31 students. The data are collected using test method and observation checklist paper, and the instrument used are test item and observation checklist paper. In order to analyze the data studentsÂ’ writing score and participation, mean score is used. The implementation of Pairs Check Method was discussing and making a descriptive text in pair of group as good method in cycle two. All of the students were active in teaching and learning activities, and they didnÂ’t feel bored and they can share their idea because they do in pairs. Those caused the result of cycle two achieved the criteria of succes. Pairs Check Method improved the studentsÂ’ writing ability in two cycles from the mean of students score ≥ 70 (M=68,3) in Cycle 1 to (M=73,2) in Cycle 2. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that Pairs Check Method is able to improve the studentsÂ’ writing ability and studentsÂ’ participation at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jember in the 2014/2015 academic year by write a descriptive text and check the answer in group of pairs.
