Writing is one of the important skills in teaching English. But in doing writing there is long process needed to construct sentences and generating ideas that make students feel difficult. Beside that the students have some problems in grammatical, content and organization.To face this common problem there must be some ways and solutions to improve the studentsÂ’ writing ability through the available method, in this case the researcher used Prewriting think sheet strategy to help them in writing especially in constructing sentence and generating ideas moreover it help them grammatically with some modification from English teacher In this research, the problem is “How can the use of Prewriting think sheet strategy improve theVIIIA StudentsÂ’ Writing Ability at Mts Al-faruq Bondowoso in the 2014/2015 Academic Year?”. The research objective is intended “To improve the VIIIA grade studentsÂ’ writing ability by using Prewriting think sheet strategy at Mts Al-faruq Bondowoso 2014/2015 academic year. The design of the research is classroom action research. The research covered four stages of activities, they are planning of the action, implementing of the action, observing of the action, and reflecting of the action.The research subject isVIIIA class because their writing score still low, which consist of 25 students and to obtain the research data instrument used test and observation. To calculate the percentage of studentsÂ’ writing score, the researcher uses this formula: E= n/N X 100% The result of the score analysis, the percentage of students who score >70 was 52% in the first cycle. It means that the score of cycle one was not achieved the criteria of success. Therefore, it was necessary to continue the action into cycle two with some modification in implementing the action. The result of writing test in second cycle was 76% of the students could achieve the target score. It was not necessary to continue the action into next cycle because more than 70% students could achieve the target score. Finally, the use of Prewriting think sheet strategy could improve the VIIIA studentsÂ’ writing ability at Mts Al-Faruq Bondowoso 2014/2015 academic year by making outline of everything that related with the story after explaining about characteristic and generic structure of Recount text and giving some revision to their assignment about how to make a good Recount text.
