Metode penelitan kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes yang menelah tentang tiga konsep makna konotatif, denotatif dan mitos. Pendekatan kualitatif adalah suatu proses penelitian dan pemahaman yang berdasarkan pada metodologi yang menyelidiki suatu fenomena sosial dan masalah manusia. Pada pendekatan ini, peneliti membuat suatu gambaran kompleks, meneliti kata-kata, laporan terinci dari pandangan peneliti terhadap analisis teks dari film yang diteliti. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui tanda denotatif, konotatif, mitos mengenai perjuangan seorang ayah dalam Film The Pursuit Of Happyness. Hasil penelitian secara denotasi perjuangan seorang ayah pada film The Persuit Of Happyness dilihat dari aspek denotasi adalah Chris seorang ayah yang mempunyai karakter tangguh, yang terus berusaha membahagikan anaknya. Perjuangan seorang ayah yang bisa terliaht dari Sequence 6 potong gambar telah merepresentasikan perjuangan seorang ayah untuk mempertahankan hidup dan untuk membahagikan anaknya. Secara konotasi perjuangan seorang ayah pada film The Persuit Of Happyness dilihat dari aspek konotasi adalah, dari karakter Chris seorang bisa terlihat dari Sequence 6 potong gambar di mana pada setiap adegannya Chris berusaha berjuang untuk membahagikan baik pada adegan saat ia berlari karena tidak membayar taksi, berusaha meyakinkan pemilik kontrakan agar tidak diusir, memberi nasehat kepada anaknya, serta mencapai kesuksesan karena akhirnya diterima kerja disalah satu perusahaan yang ia inginkan. Secara mitos bahwa secara realitasnya, sosok ayah pada umumnya adalah sosok yang sangat kuat, pantang menyerah serta mempunyai keinginan untuk memberikan semua yang terbaik untuk keluarganya. Meskipun ada sebagian kecil ayah yang terkadang melakukan tindakan khilaf yaitu melakukan berbagai cara untuk membahagiakan keluarganya, sekalipun hal tersebut melanggar hukum dan merugikan orang, tetapi ia tetaplah sosok penting yang dapat membahagikan Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perjuangan seorang ayah pada umumnya adalah sosok yang sangat kuat, pantang menyerah serta mempunyai keinginan untuk memberikan semua yang terbaik untuk keluarganya. Meskipun ada sebagian kecil ayah yang terkadang melakukan tindakan khilaf yaitu melakukan berbagai cara untuk membahagiakan keluarganya, sekalipun hal tersebut melanggar hukum dan merugikan orang, tetapi ia tetaplah sosok penting yang dapat membahagikan. Bagaimana pun keadaan seorang ayah tetap bagian penting dari semua keluarga.

Qualitative methods analysis which using approaches the study of semiotics Roland Barthes who tells us about the three concepts, connotative denotative and myth. The qualitative approach is a process of research and understanding based on methodologies that investigating a phenomenon of social and human problems. On this approach, researchers made a complex picture, examining the words, a detailed report of the views of researchers towards the analysis of the text of the film which are examined. The research purposes is to know the sign in denotative, connotative, and myths, about the struggles of a father in The Film The Pursuit Of Happyness. Research results in denotative sign is the struggles of a father in The Pursuit of Happyness can be seen from aspect that Chris is denoted as a father who has a formidable characters, who keep trying to pursuit the happiness for his son. The struggles of a father who could seen in Sequence 6 pieces of images has been represent the struggles of a father to sustain his life and to pursuit the happiness for his son. Furthermore in the connotations sign we can see that the struggle from a father in The Pursuit Of Happyness, this sign can be seen from the character of Chris that seen from a Sequence 6 pieces of images, on each set of the image we can see that Chris trying to struggle,in the every of the scenes like when he was running because did not pay the taxi, try to convince the landlord in order to be not expelled from his rented house, advises his son, and in the end he achieving success because he finally get the work in the one company that he wanted. For the myth aspect, in the reality, the father figure in general is a very strong figure,that never give up and have the desire to give all the best for his family. Although there are a small percentage of fathers who sometimes perform harsh actions i.e. do everything to made his family happy, even if it is breaking the law and harming people, but he remains an important figure that can make his family happy. In the end for the conclusion of this research is the struggle of a father in general is a very strong figure, never give up and have the desire to give all the best for his family. However the father stills an important part of the family.
