Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh Pada beberapa tahun terakhir selalu terjadi fluktuasi jumlah mahasiswa yang menggunakan hak suaranya dalam pemilihan raya mahasiswa. Fluktuasi jumlah mahasiswa yang menggunakan hak suara dalam pemilihan gubernur BEM mahasiswa, hingga saat ini, menimbulkan pertanyaan lebih lanjut bagi banyak kalangan. Meski, bentuk pemilihan sendiri telah dibuat se-demokratis mungkin, namun partisipasi mahasiswa tidak menampilkan mahasiswa partisipan. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan penelitian lapangan, dimana data primer diperoleh dari informan secara langsung di lokasi penelitian melalui wawancara, serta data sekundernya berasal dari buku, media elektronik, dan penelitian sejenis yang ada. Semua data yang diperoleh melalui tehnik observasi dan wawancara, dan kemudian menarik kesimpulan melalui konsep analisis data deskriptif kualitatif. Fenomena partisipasi mahasiswa dalam pemilu Gubernur Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa inipun menjadi menarik untuk diketahui penyebabnya. Dengan penelitian ini, peneliti berusaha mengungkap Partisipasi politik mahasiswa dalam pemilihan badam eksekutif mahasiswa fakultas. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh kesimpulan adalah rendahnya kesadaran dan tingkat partisipasi politik mahasiswa dikarenakan adanya skeptisme pada sistem dan pelaku birokrasi di tubuh organisasi BEM itu sendiri.
