One of the technique for compression the images can be compress with high ratio is fractal image compression with Partitioned Iterated Function System (PIFS) method. This method, compression image in the process is resemble natural image (local self-similarity). Finding similarity between an image in the whole and its parts is unrealistic, then seek self similarity between larger parts and smaller parts.
