Pemakaian batubara sebagai bahan bakar di industri tekstil menghasilkan limbah berupa abu dasar batubara atau coal bottom ash (CBA) dari sisa pembakaran yang memiliki nilai LOI besar (35,42%). Pada penelitian ini, CBA digunakan sebagai filter Total Suspended Solid (TSS) dan adsorben Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) untuk mengolah air limbah tekstil artifisial. CBA yang digunakan berukuran seragam (18-20 mesh) dan bervariasi (campuran 18-20 mesh dan 14-18 mesh). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan pengaruh ukuran partikel abu dasar batubara terhadap kinerja filtrasi, menentukan efektivitas perlakuan awal abu dasar batubara terhadap kinerja adsorpsi dan waktu proses adsorpsi terbaik, menentukan kapasitas adsorpsi dari abu dasar batubara, serta menentukan laju alir umpan optimum pada proses adsorpsi dan filtrasi dalam menara unggun diam. Adsorpsi secara batch dilakukan dalam erlenmeyer dengan kecepatan pengadukan 100 rpm, ukuran partikel CBA bervariasi, waktu (2 jam, 3 jam, dan 4 jam), serta rasio massa CBA terhadap volume air limbah (1:5, 1:10, 1:15, 1:20, 1:30), sedangkan adsorpsi secara kontinyu dilakukan dalam menara unggun diam dengan tinggi unggun 70 cm dan diameter 5 cm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penurunan kadar TSS efluen pada CBA berukuran seragam dan bervariasi masing-masing sebesar 64,91% dan 55,56% (kadar TSS umpan 427,5 mg/L), penurunan kadar COD efluen sebesar 95% dan 97,5% (kadar COD umpan 752,64 mg/L), serta pressure drop sebesar 48 cmH2O dan 16,9 cmH2O. Perlakuan awal CBA terbaik yaitu pencucian menggunakan HCl 0,25 M dengan waktu adsorpsi 2 jam dan penurunan kadar COD sebesar 81,52%. Berdasarkan persamaan isoterm adsorpsi Langmuir, didapatkan parameter Langmuir q0 sebesar 0,00118 kg adsorbat/kg adsorben yang merupakan kapasitas adsorpsi. Laju alir umpan optimum pada proses adsorpsi dan filtrasi dalam menara unggun diam yaitu 100 mL/menit (v = 5,09 cm/menit), dengan penurunan kadar COD 50,03% dan TSS 93,13%. The used of coal as a fuel in the textile industry, produces waste such as bottom ash or coal bottom ash (CBA) from combustion process that has a large LOI value (35,42%). In this study, CBA has been used as a filter for the removal of Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and adsorbent for the removal of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), to treat artificial wastewater of textile. Size of CBA that used was uniform (18-20 mesh) and varies (mixed 18-20 mesh and 14-18 mesh). This study aims to determine the effect of CBA's particle size to the filtration performance; to determine the effectiveness of CBA's pre-treatment and best time of the adsorption; to determine the adsorption capacity of the CBA in the adsorption process; and to determine the optimum feed flow rate of adsorption on a fix bed column. Batch adsorption was done in erlenmeyer with stirring speed 100 rpm, particle size of CBA varies, time (1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours), and ratio of the CBA's mass to the volume of waste water (1:5, 1:10, 1:15, 1:20, 1:30), then continous adsorption was done in fixed bed with bed height of 70 cm and bed diameter of 5 cm. The result showed, the decline of TSS effluent content at CBA uniform size and varies respectively by 64,91% and 55,56% (TSS contenct of feed was 427,5 mg/L), the decline of COD effluent content were 95% and 97,5% (COD contenct of feed was 752,64 mg/L),, and the pressure drop respectively were 48 cmH2O and 16,9 cmH2O. The best pretreatment of CBA was washed using HCl 0,25 M with time of adsorption for 2 hours and decreased of COD content of 81,52%. Adsorption equilibrium data were fitted with Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation with Langmuir parameter q0 was 0,00118 kg adsorbat/kg adsorben, which was adsorption capacity. The optimum feed flow rate on adsorption and filtration processes in fix bed column was 100 mL/min, with decreased of COD content of 50,03% and 93,13% of TSS.
