PT. Gistex Indonesia – Weaving Division merupakan salah satu perusahaan yang membutuhkan SIMA yang dapat menghasilkan informasi secara aktual, relevan, dan lengkap. Untuk dapat memenuhi kebutuhan PT. Gistex tersebut, suatu upaya untuk merancang suatu sistem informasi manajemen aset dapat dilakukan. Upaya perancangan sistem informasi manajemen aset yang dimaksud merupakan salah satu tahapan dalam pengembangan sistem (Laudon, 2014). Secara umum, pengembangan sistem informasi terdiri dari beberapa kegiatan. Dalam proyek perancangan sistem informasi manajemen aset di PT. Gistex Indonesia – Weaving Division, dua kegiatan pengembangan sistem informasi yang direncanakan akan dilakukan terdiri dari (1) analisis sistem, dan (2) perancangan sistem. Dua kegiatan tersebut merupakan tahap awal pengembangan sistem informasi berdasarkan tahapan pengembangan sistem (Laudon, 2014). Analisis sistem dilakukan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan pengguna sistem informasi. Kebutuhan pengguna sistem informasi diperlukan untuk menentukan model sistem informasi yang akan diterapkan. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, analisis sistem dan perancangan sistem tidak dapat dipisahkan. Model yang digunakan dalam proyek ini merupakan model yang dapat menentukan penyebab masalah seputar informasi aset [Root Cause Analysis (Rooney, 2004)] dan model prototyping (purwarupa) menurut Laudon (2014). Penggunaan kedua model tersebut didasari atas pertimbangan waktu dan biaya, dimana kedua model dinilai praktis untuk digunakan. Berdasarkan penelitian terdahulu mengenai kualitas informasi aset di PT. Gistex, telah ditemukan bahwa rancangan sistem informasi manajemen aset eksisting belum dapat menyajikan informasi aset secara aktual dan relevan. Solusi atas masalah tersebut adalah dengan melakukan pengembangan sistem informasi manajemen aset sesuai dengan tahapan penembangan di atas. Proyek pengembangan SIMA di PT. Gistex kemudian menghasilkan rancangan SIMA yang mampu beroperasi secara online dan dapat diakses melalui mobile devices. Rancangan SIMA terssebut digunakan sebagai referensi awal untuk melakukan pengembangan SIMA pada masa yang akan datang.

PT. Gistex Indonesia – Weaving Division is a firm who really needs an asset management information system capable of producing an actual, relevant, and complete asset information. To be able to fulfill their needs, one project that contains a system development has to be present. The asset information system development contains several activities such as system designing, programming, testing, and other activities that were being included in the information development cycle made by Laudon (2014). According to the system development cycle (Laudon, 2014), activities that are going to be held in the project are system analysis and system design. Those activities are the first step in the system development cycle, which means that those two activities count as the initiate phase of the whole process of asset information system development. System analysis has to be performed before the system were designed. The goal of the analysis is to understand the requirement of the asset information. The asset information requirement is needed because the requirement is the base for the information system model. The model used in this project are the model that has the ability to define the root of problem that has been found alongside the project, and a model that represent the working system which are being called as a prototype. The use of those models are based on the gathered resource such as time and the fund. This means that the two models has been identified as the convenient model. Based on the previous reserach (a case study of the asset information quality), the system design of that AMIS at PT. Gistex doesn't have ability to produce the good information quality. This howerver lead to the project that was designed to exterminate that problem. The project that walks around the system development made several output which is notably are needed by PT. Gistex such as the online asset database, the cost estimation, and also the asset management information system design itself.
