Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa yang rendah. Didalam proses pembelajaran guru banyak berperan aktif sedangkan siswa hanya menerima apa yang disampaikan oleh guru. Sehingga dalam hal ini guru yang lebih berperan aktif sedangkan siswa cenderung pasif. Selain itu, kesulitan siswa dalam memecahkan masalah matematika yang disuguhkan menyebabkan hasil belajar kurang maksimal. Alternatif untuk memecahkan permasalahan diatas yaitu dengan menerapkan pembelajaran menggunakan metode Means-Ends Analysis (MEA). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa dengan menggunakan metode Means-Ends Analysis (MEA) sub pokok bahasan keliling dan luas persegi panjang dan persegi. Pelaksanaan pembelajaran dilakukan pada 13 Maret 2015 sampai 22 April 2015. Subjek penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas VIIC SMP Negeri 2 Kalisat-Jember. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan kuantitatif dan jenis penelitian adalah PTK. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan metode observasi, wawancara, tes dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa pada siklus I dan siklus II mengalami peningkatan. Persentase peningkatan aktivitas belajar siswa dari siklus I ke siklus II sebesar 12%. Dimana aktivitas belajar siswa pada siklus I sebesar 76% dan siklus II sebesar 88%. Sedangkan untuk hasil belajar siswa pada siklus I sebesar 73% dan siklus II sebesar 94% sehingga terlihat bahwa hasil belajar siswa dari siklus I ke siklus II mengalami peningkatan sebesar 21%. Kesimpulan yang diambil dari hasil analisis data dan pembahasan adalah dengan diterapkannya pembelajaran matematika menggunakan metode Means-Ends Analysis (MEA) pada sub pokok bahasan keliling dan luas persegi panjang dan persegi dapat meningkatkan aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa di kelas VIIC SMP Negeri 2 Kalisat-Jember.

This research is motivated by the activity and student learning outcomes is low. Many teachers in teaching learning process active role while students just accept what is presented by the teacher. So in this case teachers more active role then the students tend to be passive. In addition, student difficulties in solving mathematical problems presented causes less than the maximum learning outcomes. Alternatives to solve the problems above by implementing the learning Means-Ends Analysis (MEA) method. The purpose this research to improve the activity and student learning outcomes by using Means-Ends Analysis (MEA) sub subject of the circumference and area of a rectangle and square. The implementation of the research is from 13rd March 2015 – 22rd May 2015. The subject of the research si seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kalisat-Jember. This study uses qualitative and quantitative approach and the kind of research is classroom Action Research. The data collection methods is by using observation, interview, test and documentation. Based on the results of data analysis activities and student learning outcomes in the first cycle and second cycle increased. The percentage increase in student learning activities from the first cycle to the second cycle is 12%. Where the learning activities of students in the first cycle is 76% and the second cycle is 88%. As for the learning outcomes of students in the first cycle is 73% and the second cycle is 94% so it looks that the learning outcomes of students from the first cycle to the second cycle increased by 21%. The conclusions drawn from the data analysis and discussion is the application of mathematical learning using Means-Ends Analysis (MEA) methods in the sub subject of the circumference and area of a rectangle and a square can increase the activity and student learning outcomes in seventh C grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kalisat-Jember.
