Salah satu kompetensi yang dibutuhkan remaja dalam berinteraksi adalah mampu memahami suatu situasi sosial yang memungkinkan individu dapat memilih berbagai macam perilaku yang sesuai harapan lingkungan sosialnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kompetensi sosial siswa boarding school dan full day school SMP IT Al Ghazali Jember. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan teknik perbedaan dari dua variabel. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa/siswi SMP IT AL Ghazali Jember, kelas VII dan VIII, berjumlah 150 orang yaitu masing-masing 71 siswa boarding school dan 79 siswa full day school. Teknik pengambilan sampel secara sampel kuota serta mengikuti aturan pengambilan sampel Isaac dan Michael sehingga total sampel 130 siswa, masing-masing diambil 65 siswa dari siswa boarding school maupun full day school. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan skala kompetensi sosial model Likert hasil modifikasi dari skala social school behavior scale yang pernah digunakan Rahman (2010) dengan reliabilitas 0,892 (N= 23 item valid). Dari hasil uji validitas data (try out terpakai), item dinyatakan valid dari 40 item yang diuji. Reliabilitas sesungguhnya adalah kuat, sebesar α = 0,729. Hasil uji hipotesis perbedaan dengan menggunakan indepent sampel t-tes dari SPSS for windows versi 17, diketahui terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara kompetensi sosial siswa boarding school dengan full day school, dengan nilai hasil uji 0,064.

One of the teenager competence is a capable of understanding social situation that allows the individual can choose a behavior who be expected of their social environment. This research aims to determine differences between students social competence of boarding school and a full day school in Junior High School IT Al Ghazali Jember. This Research used a quantitative technique with difference of two variables approach. The population of this research were SMP IT AL Ghazali Jember students, class VII and VIII are 150 people, respectively 71 boarding school and 79 full day school students. The technique of sampling was used quota sampling technique and follow the rules of Isaac and Michael lawÂ’s sampling, make the total of sample become 130 students, each taken 65 students both of them. Data were collected using a model Likert scaleÂ’s social competence, it was modification of the social school behavior scale who ever used Rahman (2010 ) in his research. From the results of data validity, item valid of 40 items tested. Data reliability is strong at α = 0,729 . The results of difference testing hypothesis by using indepent sample t - test of SPSS for Windows version 17, finds that there are significant differences between the social competence of boarding school students with a full day school , with test results value was 0,064.
