Universitas Komputer Indonesia merupakan salah satu Universitas yang telah berbasis ICT dimana pengolahan data sudah dilakukan dengan komputasi untuk pengolahan akademik seperti pengolahan absensi dan nilai. Dalam kegiatan mengisi absensi perkuliahan di Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) dilakukan secara konvensional dengan menandatangani form absensi kehadiran berdasarkan matakuliah yang bersangkutan pada saat perkuliahan berlangsung, Setiap mahasiswa akan mengisi tandatangannya pada selembar kertas ini sebagai bukti kehadiran dan kemudian form tersebut diberikan kepada dosen yang bersangkutan. Teknologi Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) merupakan teknologi yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan suatu sistem yang mentransmisikan identitas/data (dalam bentuk nomor seri yang unik) dari suatu benda atau orang secara nirkabel (tanpa kabel) melalui gelombang radio. RFID dikelompokkan dalam teknologi identifikasi otomatis. Dengan Teknologi RFID, mahasiswa tidak perlu lagi mengisi form absensi karena mahasiswa akan otomatis teridentifikasi kedalam sistem informasi. Prototype Aplikasi Akademik berbasis teknologi Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) pada Universitas Komputer Indonesia (UNIKOM) sebagai media pendukung proses akademik yang sudah ada seperti otomatisasi absensi kehadiran mahasiswa dan dengan aplikasi ini dapat mengurangi kesalahan dalam memasukan data absensi mahasiswa .
