Fotografi landscape dimulai dengan foto hitam putih. Ada suatu tradisi dari fotografi landscape yang dimulai lebih dari 150 tahun yang lalu. Pada saat itu, fotografer menggunakan film yang sangat lambat dan sangat kurang sensitivitasnya. Sehingga landscape menjadi subjek sempurna untuk dipotret. Alasannya karena landscape tidak bergerak selama eksposure panjang. Saat itu juga fotografi landscape menjadi suatu cara untuk menemukan dan mengeksplorasi dunia. Fotografi landscape berbelok aneh diawal 1900-an saat fotografer berfikir mereka harus seperti pelukis dan membuat gambar yang tidak terlihat terlalu nyata. Hingga sampai saat ini fotografi landscape terus berkembang. Hal tersebut menimbulkan dampak berupa munculnya representasi yang berbeda dari fotografi landscape. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut peneliti melakukan penelitian dengan membedah foto Ãâ foto landscape baik warna dan hitam putih dari beberapa fotografer di Indonesiadengan menggunakan analisis visual (komposisi, cahaya, warna, dll). Berdasarkan analisis visual dari beberapa foto landscape rwarna dan hitam putih didapatkan beberapa faktor yaitu cuaca dan cahaya mempengaruhi warna dan gelap terang, pengalaman dan pengetahuan fotografer mempengaruhi hasil foto. Representasi dari foto landscape warna dipengaruhi oleh warna. Warna kekuning Ãâ kuningan memberikan kesan hangat sedangkan warna kebiru Ãâbiruan memberikan kesan dingin. Fotografi landscape yang ditampilkan dengan hitam putih lebih berbicara mengenai ketajaman, detail, serta atmosfer yang terasa pada suatu tempat. fotografi landscape hitam putih merepresentasikan alam menjadi terlihat tidak terlalu nyata. Foto landscape hitam putih memberikan kesempatan untuk penikmat foto berimajinasi. Fotografi landscape memiliki estetika dan keindahan karena fotografer sebagai pencipta foto memasukkan semangat petualangan, ekspresi diri dan bahkan budaya dalam berkarya.
