SMP SUMATRA 40 saat ini memang sudah terbiasa dengan penggunaan komputer sebagai alat bantu untuk kegiatan akademik, tetapi dalam bagian pendaftaran siswa masih diurutkan berdasarkan tanggal masuk pendaftaran dan harus dicatatkan kembali di buku arsip pendaftaran, sehingga dapat menimbulkan kerangkapan data siswa dan penyimpanan yang berbentuk arsip yang dapat memungkinkan arsip tercecer. Pada era globalisasi sekarang ini hal seperti ini dirasa kurang efektif dan efesien dikarenakan berbagai masalah seperti banyaknya siswa yang mendaftar pada saat pendaftaran siswa baru. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada peneliti ini menggunakan metode pendekatan objek. Desain peneliti metode deskriptif dan survey. Metode pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Alat perancangan system yang digunakan untuk mengambarkan model system diantaranya Use Case, Diagram Activity, Skenario, Class Diagram, Sequence Diagram, Component Diagram, Dan Diagram Deployment. Dalam pembagunan Aplikasi Akademik ini menggunakan bahasa pemograman PHP, Framework CodeIgniter, Sublime Text 2 sebagai alat bantu perangkat lunak dan MySql sebagai database. Untuk pengembangan sistem informasi akademik pada SMP SUMATRA 40 BANDUNG, diharapkan bisa memproses sampai pembuatan rapot siswa. Sistem informasi ini diharapkan bisa memproses absensi siswa Sistem infomasi akademik ini diharapkan bisa dalam proses perpindahan sekolah atau mutasi.
