Penelitian ini berjudul The Ambiguity of Genetive of-construction (Abr /br /br / Study of Semantics), dilakukan berdasarkan asumsi bahwa genitive ofconstructionbr /br /br / sulit untuk ditafsirkan. Hal ini menyebabkan ambiguitas. Olehbr /br /br / karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui makna apabr /br /br / saja yang dapat ditafsirkan dari genitive of-construction, proposisi apa saja yangbr /br /br / dapat dinyatakan dari genitive of-construction, dan implicit case dan state rolebr /br /br / apa saja yang terdapat dalam genitive of-construction. Dalam penelitian ini, databr /br /br / diambil dari beberapa sumber, yaitu Wuthering Heights, Northanger Abbey, Thebr /br /br / Complete Sherlock Holmes, The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, Sense andbr /br /br / Sensibility, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, and The Prisoner of Azkaban.br /br /br / Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptifbr /br /br / analitik, dilakukan dengan cara menggambarkan dan menganalisis data. Metodebr /br /br / deskriptif hanya difokuskan pada penggambaran ambiguitas genitive ofconstruction.br /br /br / Sedangkan metode analitik difokuskan pada analisis strukturbr /br /br / semantik yang mengindikasikan genitive of-construction yang ambigu.br /br /br / Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah adanya 3 klasifikasi yang muncul;br /br /br / pertama, Genitive of-construction yang menyatakan Event proposition ditandaibr /br /br / oleh implicit Agent atau Action; ditandai oleh impllicit Agent atau Affceted;br /br /br / ditandai oleh implicit Agent atau Action atau Beneficiary; ditandai oleh implicitbr /br /br / Agent atau Beneficiary. Kedua, Genitive of-construction yang menyatakan Statebr /br /br / atau Event Proposition ditandai oleh implicit Agent atau Action. Ketiga, Genitivebr /br /br / of-construction yang menyatakan Event dan State Proposition ditandai olehbr /br /br / implicit Agent atau Action; ditandai oleh implicit Agent atau Action ataubr /br /br / Comment; ditandai oleh Agent atau Action atau Comment atau Beneficiary;br /br /br / ditandai oleh implicit Agent atau Comment; ditandai oleh implicit Agent ataubr /br /br / Affected atau Comment. Analisis membuktikan bahwa genitive of-constructionbr /br /br / dapat menjadi ambigu karena ada beberapa case dan state role yang dihilangkan.br /br /br / Selain itu, hal ini juga terjadi dalam sebuah kalimat karena tidak ada kata, frasabr /br /br / ataupun klausa yang memberikan informasi tambahan mengenai genitive ofcontruction

The research entitled The Ambiguity of Genitive of-construction (Abr /br /br / Study of Semantics) is conducted based on the assumption that the genitive ofconstructionbr /br /br / is hard to interpret. Then, it causes the ambiguity. Thus, this researchbr /br /br / is purposed to find out the meanings resulted from the ambiguity of genitive ofconstruction,br /br /br / the propositions encoded from the ambiguity of genitive ofconstruction,br /br /br / and the implicit case and state roles involved in the ambiguity ofbr /br /br / genitive of-construction. In this research, the data were collected from several databr /br /br / sources, such as Wuthering Heights, Northanger Abbey, The Complete Sherlockbr /br /br / Holmes, Tom Sawyer Huckleberry Finn, Sense and Sensibility, Harry Potterbr /br /br / and The Deathly Hallows, and Prisoner of Azkaban.br /br /br / The method used in this research is analytic descriptive method, conductedbr /br /br / by describing and analyzing the data. The descriptive method is focused on thebr /br /br / description of ambiguity of genitive of-construction. Meanwhile, the analyticbr /br /br / method is focused on the analysis of the semantic structure indicating thebr /br /br / ambiguity of genitive of-construction.br /br /br / As the result of the research, there were 3 classifications emerge; first,br /br /br / Genitive of-constructions encode Event propositions which were marked bybr /br /br / implicit Agent or Action; implicit Agent or Affected; implicit Agent or Action orbr /br /br / Beneficiary; implicit Agent or Beneficiary. Second, Genitive of-constructionsbr /br /br / encode State Propositions which were marked by implicit Agent or Action. Third,br /br /br / Genitive of-constructions encode Event and State Propositions which werebr /br /br / marked by implicit Agent or Action; implicit Agent or Action or Comment;br /br /br / implicit Agent or Action or Comment or Beneficiary; implicit Agent or Comment;br /br /br / implicit Agent or Affected or Comment. The analysis proved that the genitive ofconstructionbr /br /br / could be ambiguous since there were some case and state roles whichbr /br /br / were left implicit. In addition, it could also be ambiguous in sentence since therebr /br /br / were no words, phrases, or clauses which gave more information about genitivebr /br /br / of-construction
