One of the important English skills is reading which tends to be formal and constructed carefully. It means success in school and life depends on the studentÃâs ability to read. But in reality, they are still difficult to read. Writing can help the students recall their past experiences. If the student likes to read English text, they will get easier in writing. The more they read English text, the more they will get a new vocabulary. From that we know that reading comprehension and writing ability have a correlation.
The problem of this research is: ÃâIs there a significant correlation between reading comprehension and writing ability of the seventh year students of SMP Plus Sunan Giri Mojomulyo in the 2015/2016 academic year?Ãâ the objective of the research is: ÃâTo prove whether there is a significant correwriting abilityÃâ. The hypothesis of this research is: ÃâThere is a significant correlation between reading comprehension and writing ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Plus Sunan Giri Mojomulyo in the academic year 2015/2016.Ãâ
This research uses correlational research method which was held in SMP Plus Sunan Giri Mojomulyo from 18th Desember 2015 to 19th Desember 2015 on the first grade students of SMP Plus Sunan Giri. This research took one class as the sample of population . And to collect the data of reading comprehension, objective test was used while for writing ability, subjective test was used. The data analysis methods used in this research is Product Moment Correlation. The coefficient of correlation between reading comprehension and writing ability was 0.99. Based on the r-table 0.80-1.00 is categorized in high correlation. The coefficient of correlation between reading comprehension and writing ability is between 0.80-1.00. So, it is categorized as high correlation.
