Listening is the first language mode that children acquire. It provides a foundation for all aspects of language and cognitive development, and it plays a life long role in the process of learning and communication essential to productive participation in life.
In this research, the problem is ÃâHow is the listening comprehension achievement of the second year students at SMA Negeri Ambulu in the academic year 2006/2007? The purpose of this research is to describe the listening comprehension achievement of the second year students at SMA Negeri Ambulu in the academic year 2006/2007
The kind of this research is descriptive research. It used cluster random sampling to take a sample. To obtain the data, it used test.
Finally, by making computations above, the result of research as follows: The percentage of listening comprehension achievement of the second year students at SMA Negeri Ambulu in the academic year 2006/ 2007 was 72.08. It means that the category of the studentsÃâ comprehension was fair. The result of the mean score of class was 78.
Therefore, listening should be practiced very frequently, so that such exercises will be in constant use. They have to have certain time to do listening either classroom activity or language laboratory activity. It is an evitable thing that they will face any difficulties to comprehend the listening text. When the problem happens, the teacher should rise up the studentÃâs interest and motivation in listening. By mastering a lot of vocabulary, it is hoped that the student will easier to comprehend the text.
