Many students realize that listening comprehension achievement is difficult. The students should listen carefully to the material which is given. They are required not only comprehending and interpreting the content of the spoken form, but also remembering what they have heard. A teacher also needs supporting media in introducing English especially listening. The using Language Laboratory is one of way to make students easier to get the material given by the teacher. Here the researcher tries to give information about the influence of Language Laboratory on the studentsÃâ listening comprehension achievement. In this research, the problem is ÃâIs there any significant influence of using Language Laboratory as media on the second year studentsÃâ listening comprehension achievement of SMPN3 Tanggul-Jember in the academic year 2008/2009?Ãâ. The purpose of this study is to know whether there is or not any significant influence of using Language Laboratory as media on the second year studentsÃâ listening comprehension achievement of SMPN3 Tanggul-Jember in the academic year 2008/2009.
The design of the research is experimental. The sample of this research is selected by using cluster random sampling. The method of collecting data is listening test. The form of the test is objective test about narrative story. The test is given to the students on the pre-test and post-test. The statistical formula to analyze listening test is t-test formula.
Based on the result of the data analysis, the value of t-test is higher than the t-critical value at significant level of 5% (10.06>2) from the degree of freedom 78. In other word, variable have significant influence of using Language Laboratory as media on the second year studentsÃâ listening comprehension achievement of SMPN3 Tanggul-Jember in the academic year 2008/2009. Since there was a significant influence, the researcher recommended to the English teacher to use Language laboratory as media in the teaching of listening.
