USING GUIDED NOTE TAKING METHOD TO IMPROVE THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTSÃâ LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT SMP NEGERI 02 JATIROTO LUMAJANG IN THE 2013/2014 ACADEMIC YEAR

In this century, English canÃât be separated from our life. English has become a crucial part that can be learned or taught everywhere. In English lesson there are four main skills that should be studied. Those are speaking, writing, listening and reading. These four main skills are related together in order to make people able to master English well.
The main purpose in using guided note taking method is improve the studentsÃâ listening comprehension. In this research, the problem which is investigated is how can the use of guided note taking method improve the listening comprehension of Seventh grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Jatiroto Lumajang in the 2013/2014 academic year? The design in this research is classroom action research (CAR). Thereby, the writer plans to teach listening comprehension by using guided note taking method at SMP Negeri 2 Jatiroto Lumajang in the 2013/2014 Academic year. The subject of the research is the Seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Jatiroto Lumajang in the 2013/2014 academic year which consists of 30 students.
The research was done on 21st May Ãâ 30th May 2014. The data was mainly obtained through test. The test is objective by matching from the text. The data was analyzed using formula E = n/N x 100%. The result of the score analysis, the percentage of the students who got 70 was 60% in the first cycle and 83.33% in the second cycle. The way that the researcher used to improve the studentsÃâ listening comprehension is by modificating audio-visual. media. So the Guide Note Taking will help the students organize them idea, focus the energy, make time effectively, create and empty space in brain, brings a sense of satisfaction and make the students be confidence. Guide Note Taking can increase stock of knowledge to the students and can overcome the problems faced by students while studying listening. Students punishment gives if they donÃât do the request of researcher. Giving reward to the students who were active in the class was one way to enhance the motivation and participation of the students in teaching learning process.
It concluded that guided note taking method is effective to be applied in increasing the studentsÃâ listening comprehension. This research, therefore, is expected to be useful for both the students and teachers. For the students, to follow the guided note taking method and they must be able to adapt perfectly, so that they achieve the listening comprehension better than before, and for the English teachers using guided note taking method for teaching listening comprehension can improve both the studentsÃâ listening comprehension and the studentsÃâ participation in the teaching learning process.
Guided note taking method can used in the teaching and learning, especially listening because this method suitable in teaching and learning proses with audio-visual media.
